03 Nov 2015

Netflix’s live streaming content is quickly becoming the main way people are watching TV.

With binge watching the norm for Millennials, Netflix has risen to the demand by pumping out new originals this year.

Netflix reports they have around 36 new original shows streaming – between its new arrivals and recurring ones.

If you’re stuck watching the same old shows you’ve been watching for awhile, why not take a step out of your comfort zone, grab your SURE Universal remote and check out what’s new and hot over on Netflix.

Here are 7 top original shows on Netflix to keep your eye on.

1. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This comedy starring Ellie Kemper as Kimmy, and written by Tina Fey, will have you laughing, snorting and smiling for the entire season.

Kimmy Schmidt is rescued after 15 years from an underground cult and decides to move to New York to start over and reclaim her life.

The show follows her everyday life and interactions with New Yorkers. On a whim, she moves in with Titus, a struggling gay actor who’s always late on rent and has drama following him wherever he goes.

Titus and Kimmy help each other out. Titus introduces her to modern life, like how cell phones work, while Kimmy gives inspiration to Titus telling him never to give up. This show debuted in March 2015.

IMDb rates this show as 8/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gives this show a whopping 94%.

2. Bloodline

Bloodline was created by Glen Kessler, Todd A. Kessler and Daniel Zelman – the trio behind the hit show Damages.

This thriller is about a well-to-do family, the Rayburns, living in their Florida Keys community.

Their lives suddenly change when their eldest son – the black sheep of the family – played by Ben Mendelsohn, returns home for the 45th anniversary of the hotel his parent’s woned, and threatens to dish out their family’s dark secrets.

This family drama pushes everyone involved to pick sides, threatening to ruin their relationships. This show debuted in March 2015.

IMDb gave Bloodline an 8.3/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gave this show a 74%.

3. Daredevil

Netflix is getting prepared to launch shows detailing the Marvel universe. Daredevil is the first in this series.

The show follows Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, who is an attorney by day. Blinded as a child, he uses his other senses when he’s Daredevil, fighting vigilantes in the streets of New York at night.

His heroic efforts don’t go unnoticed; Wilson Fisk – also known as Kingpin – is a businessman with a lot of power. Daredevil’s actions are not welcomed by Kingpin or others and they want to put a stop to him once and for all .

Daredevil only wants to fight crime and help protect his neighborhood and community from these evil criminals. But Kingpin is making that difficult. Daredevil debuted in April 2015.

IMDb gave this show an 8.9/10.

4. Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day of Camp

In 2001, David Wain made the cult classic Wet Hot American Summer depicting the lives of teens and camp counselors on the last day of summer camp.

Fifteen years later, Netflix picked up the show and created the prequel, Wet Hot American Summer: The First Day of Camp. What’s amazing about this show is the well-known actors in the original movie are also in the Netflix original.

A hard feat when many of these actors, including Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper and Molly Shannon, are busy with their own popular careers.

The show takes us back to 1981, on the first day of summer camp at Camp Firewood. The series debuted in July 2015.

IMDb gave this show a 7.6/10 and Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 92%.

5. Master of None

This new Netflix original – and the last two on this list – haven’t aired yet. Master of None is the brainchild creation from the comedian Aziz Ansari, better known as Tom Haverford on the show Parks and Recreation.

It will debut on November 6th. It stars Dev, played by Aziz, and focuses on his life in New York. It’s set as a comedy so expect Dev to be caught up in hilarious situations.

6. W/ Bob and David

Bob Odenkirk and David Cross are at it again. Creators of the hit 90’s cult comedy series, Mr. Show, Bob and David return on Netflix to dish out more comedic skits.

For most of us, we know Bob as the seedy criminal lawyer Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. But, before his dramatic roles, he was first a comedian. This show will definitely be a fresh look at Bob Odenkirk and debuts November 13.

7. Jessica Jones

The next in line for the Marvel series is Jessica Jones, a female street-level superhero.

The new series is about Jessica, who was doused in radioactive chemicals and spent months in a coma. She awakens to find out she has special superpowers – super strength and flight. The show will debut November 20.
