Saturday, April 22 is Earth Day 2017.
So, what better way to celebrate than to look at the positive impact smart technology is having on day-to-day life?
Currently, most consumers will recognize smart technology when it’s found in the home – things like smart lighting and smart appliances.
But, smart technology is all around us, and it’s a market that’s only going to keep expanding.
In the workplace, for example, it can free up professional staff from routine tasks, letting them get on with the job they’re trained for. It also means resources can be diverted to where they’re most needed.
Let’s find out a few ways that smart technology is changing the world – for the better.

Talk has definitely turned towards smart home technology in recent months. Everything from refrigerators to lighting now seems to be connected to the internet.
And recently, it was speculated that nearly 30 million households in the US alone were predicted to add smart technology to their home over the next year.
But the thought of turning your existing home into a smart home can often sound a bit overwhelming. You might have heard horror stories about the potential security issues in various smart devices.
Or maybe you have thought about creating a smart home, but were confused by the number of protocols used by smart devices. From Bluetooth to WiFi to ClearConnect to ZigBee, do you really have to be a tech wiz to get this all going?
The answer is no. Smart home technology brings a lot of benefits, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. Once you start using smart appliances, you’ll find they’re not all that different from the devices you’re used to.
A few weeks of freshly brewed coffee when you get out of bed, the perfect temperature in your home, and controlling your media center from your sofa will make you wonder how you lived without them.
Let’s find out what the first step is in creating a smart home.

If you’re below a certain age, you won’t remember the days of walking over to a device to turn it on and off. Record players needed users to flip an LP over to access the songs on the other side. And a button on the TV was the only way to change the channel.
The growth of consumer tech has also led to an explosion in the number of remote controls. Each one has its own bewildering array of buttons, many of which you may never use.
That’s if you can even find the remote. They have a tendency to fall between sofa cushions or become lost among magazines.
Research has found that TV watchers can spend over 4 and a half hours a week just looking for lost remotes.
But have you ever wondered how infrared (IR) remotes work?
Let’s find out what it is they do and how you can fix the problem of multiple controllers littering your home.

If you believe Moore’s Law, computer processing speed doubles every two years.
But even if that level of progress is slowing down, technology is still moving at a fast pace every year.
With so many products and apps in the marketplace, it’s important to stay up to date, both with trends and technology. But what can you and your company do to make sure your offering is still current?

With the rise of the smart home, it’s becoming clear that the Internet of Things (IoT) is not just a fad.
According to Gartner, it will grow to 26 billion devices by 2020. That means there’s going to be smart devices lighting, heating, automating and protecting your home, your vehicle, your loved ones, and more.
When it comes to making your life easier and more productive, IoT technology offers a lot of advantages. It could even prove to be a game-changer for households who provide care for older family members.
But as with any new technology, there is a darker side waiting to be exploited. Let’s find out what the risks are, and what the industry is doing to secure the Internet of Things.

Imagine trying to live without technology in your daily life. It’s difficult to picture a day without your mobile phone, laptop, tablet – or any smart devices you’re currently using.
And like most Millennials, you’ve probably tried to introduce new gadgets to your parents. Many times.
If you’re a parent, you might have been surprised when your own toddler learned to stream Netflix or YouTube even before your own mother or father did.
Luckily, there is a whole range of smart devices and smartphone apps you can teach your parents to use to make their lives easier.
You won’t need to field lengthy “how do I work this?” phone calls in the middle of the work day any more, and you’ll know someone – or something – is making life safer and easier for your parents when you’re not around.
And why shouldn’t your parents get the benefit of the tech we take for granted?
